I Will Not Walk Quietly

I must, at any cost, strive to become the person of freedom that I so admire. I do not want to ever find myself in the position that is occupied by the ignorant or the apathetic.  I can not rest behind the lie that I do not know.  I will not allow myself to submit to the fear that allows men to be killed, women to be raped and children sold into slavery.

I need to choose my day, no, this day when I will walk for the lame and speak for the mute.  I will embrace the disease that destroys the body, but never, ever have the slightest regard for the diseases that destroy the moral integrity of man.  That so grossly disfigures the creation and image of God.

I will beg for the right to someday ask the question, “why?”

However, I will beg quietly, in my solitude.

I will embrace life in your eyes, so that somehow you may receive more of it, all the while searching for the only thing that will bring my heart rest…

The right to ask the question, first hand…

The right to sleep.
